Vancouver – Street Photography

As I mentioned in the previous post I went to Vancouver to see family, my mum hadn’t seen my Auntie for a few years so I said I would go out there with her. I did a fair bit of shooting with Models whilst there, and also as usual Pete and I went out to shoot [...]
Where am I now?

Well, it has been a while since I wrote in the blog, but I am not really travelling anymore, old news for most of you but here is the round up of what has been happening. In May were leaving Moscow to move to Hamburg, although a few days before the move Lou got an [...]
Weekend in Kazan
Kazan is the modern day capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan and lies about 450 miles to the east of Moscow where the Volga and Kazanka Rivers meet. Kazan was formed in the early 15th century but became the capital of the Tatar Khanate that emerged from the Golden Horde although it said the [...]
Golden Ring Cities – Sergiev Posad

Sergiev Posad is the closest of the ‘Golden Ring’ cities near to Moscow, of the Golden Ring we have already visited Vladimir and Suzdal.
Travel Photography – Yekaterinburg Part 2

The next day we went for a walk down the river Isset from the original wooden dam (albeit with newer stone facing) that we saw on our first day here (see previous post)
Travel Photography – Yekaterinburg Part 1

We were looking to travel somewhere at the last minute for the weekend, somewhere for the two of us to get away alone so we consulted our list:- Murmansk – Too cold and dark yet, St Petersburg – been too many times, Sochi – Too much rain, and Yekaterinburg – cold but not too cold and [...]
Golden Ring Cities – Suzdal

Suzdal is perhaps one of the most interesting of the ‘Golden Ring’ cities North East of Moscow, and one of the oldest remaining towns in Russia with records showing its history dates back to at least 1024 AD.
The Streets of Vancouver

When I got to Vancouver after the few days in Victoria I met my cousin that I hadn’t seen since I was 3yrs old, but we have been in touch via Facebook for a couple of years now, and he happens to be a great Photographer.
Victoria – Whales, Seals, and Sealions

After trying and failing to go Whale-watching the next day due to bad weather we did finally make it on the day we were due back to go to Vancouver. We went out on a very fast boat with Sea Fun Safari
The Streets of New York part 1

On our recent two weekend trip to New York (and a few days in Vancouver in the middle) I was pretty determined to some photos for my course in the form of Street Photography, candid shots of people. I of course wanted to combine this with my usual mix of architectural oddities so when we arrived and had showered in the hotel we went for a little walk to see what we could see.
Kamchatka – Rafting the Bystraya

So, on the 3 rafts, we had 21 people, and ALL our gear for the 2 week trip, and all the kitchen and dining setup, so consequently the boats were pretty heavily loaded.
Kamchatka – Esso Village

We had another long journey (about 5hrs) to Esso village to experience some of the ‘native’ Even people of Kamchatka, we started by driving through the forest and then to the same interesting river crossing, luckily the last crossing before the lunch break was running late so we managed to catch it.
Kamchatka – Tolbachik Volcano

It looked like a lunar lanscape of volcanic ash/sand and rock with small cones around us and the imposing site of Ostry (sharp) and Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik Volcanoes,
Kamchatka – Uzon Caldera and Valley of the Geysers

We arrived at the supposedly fantastic hotel with thermal baths, Helios Hotel in Paratunka, another highly innacurate description by the Vision of Kamchatka team, where we said goodbye to some of our group who were returning home.
Kamchatka – Gorely Volcano

The morning after the scramble up Mutnovsky Volcano we were looking forward to going up to the top of Gorely Volcano which on paper should be easier, only 1829 metre high
Kamchatka – Mutnovsky Volcano

The next day it was time for the first volcano, Mutnovsky (2323 metres high). It is formed of 4 Stratovolcanos joined together and has a double crater
Kamchatka – Petropavlovsk

I recently returned from a fairly unique trip amongst my friends certainly, I went to the Russian far east, to Kamchatka, ‘Land of Ice and Fire’
48hrs in Geneva

After a day in Lausanne for Lou’s job we arrived in Geneva by train into glorious sunshine, jumped into a taxi and headed to the Hotel Rotary despite him insisting it was only a short walk away. He was right in the end, but we didn’t have a map due to printer malfunction and he made himself a bit of cash.
Golden Ring Cities – Vladimir

Starting to the North East of Moscow there is a group of historic towns and cities that form a ring, the most well known being Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov Velikiy, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, and Sergiev Posad.
Weekend in St Petersburg with the In-laws

As a finale to their enforced extension to their visit to Moscow due to the volcanic ash cloud over most of Europe we decided to go to St Petersburg.
Touring Moscow with the In-laws

The in-laws came over 2 weeks ago today for four days, but the volcanic ash cloud covering most of Europe meant they stayed for 10 days in the end, so we did a fair bit of looking around the city to the following places:- Red Square and St Basil’s Cathedral Kitai Gorod Cathedral of Christ [...]
