Whilst on a visit back to oxford we stayed in the Randolph Hotel, very nice, very plush, very English! A couple of the mornings had some amazing light at dawn just as the sun was rising and I had a wander around.
The first morning I started at the Randolph with the newly renovated Ashmolean Museum opposite looking stunning, which I captured from the hotel room the previous night:-
This morning it again looked lovely, but I went for a trio of separeate photos instead of one big one, from here I went down Magdalen St to Broad Street and got a nice photo of quite an empty Broad Street. A wander down to the Sheldonian Theatre and I managed to peak around the side fo the theatre giving an interesting view. I got down to the Clarendon Building and snapped the historic King’s Arms. It is then worth turning right down Catte Street, and you will soon pass Hertford Bridge (known as the Bridge of Sighs) down New College Lane on your left, but this time there was construction work going on and around the right hand side of the bridge so I didn’t bother shooting it, although in hindsight I could have concentrated on the left hand side only. I continued to work down Catte Strett until I got to the Radcliffe Square and the Radcliffe Camera, the warm early morning light bathed the stone of the building in a warm glow, absolutely the best time to capture this great building. Around this square there is a lot fo great architecture, not least of which is the University Church of St Mary the Virgin. From her I had a quick look on High Street, but roadworks meant opportunities to get great shots of High Street were limited so I went back in Radcliffe Square and down Brasenose Lane, down Cormarket Street back to the Hotel.
The next morning was a short walk up St Giles to The Church of St Giles and the War Memorial Cross, and back down St Giles you can see shots of the famous Eagle and Child Pub, an English tradional red telephone box, one of the many bicycles you see around Oxford, and the view of the side of the Ashmolean Museum.
Have a look and see what you think, please feel free to leave a comment.
