Moscow – the first month or so

It has been about 6 weeks since we moved here to Moscow and it feels like we have done so much, and so little, from multiple trips to Ikea (a necessary evil!), to being overawed in Red Square, once again multiple times.

So the apartment we settled on is in the area of Kitai Gorod (China Town) and Lubyanka (HQ of the FSB, former HQ of the KGB), it is a beautiful place, and the little issues with the place are being worked through by the landlady in typical Russian style for such things – slowly! It has high ceilings, chandeliers, and most importantly a walk-in wardrobe (closet) for Lou’s clothes/shoes.

So far we have met a few people over here, from a Head Chef, to teachers, to a nanny, one of which has been staying with us for a couple of weeks, Kelly the (former) nanny. She was having a lot of issues with her employer, more specifically the devil child she was charged to look after, so we offered her a room for the final 2 weeks of her initial month in the Moscow area. It has been interesting having someone around the place during the daytime, and getting around the more obscure parts of the central parts of the city to take photos. We are not visiting many of the tourist attractions here just yet, we are waiting for people to visit before doing that, so come on people get yourself out here.

We are well settled and we are now preparing for our first trip home in a couple of weeks with a list of things we need to get that are cheaper at home, or simply not available here, but mostly more of Lou’s clothes. We are due to be in Oxford on 17th September and Manchester on 24th September, with Spain and Portsmouth in between.

Here are some of the photos so far:-
