Well I had to delay posting this for a week due to not having the photos for it but here goes, and I have just linked to the photos on Flickr for this post.
After a mad few weeks seeing people, getting our stuff packed away and either shipped, moved into storage, or moved to Lou’s mum’s house we are finally here, actually we have been here for almost a week now. We had a few disappointing moments before we left but also some great ones. The former including being let down by one removals company and then by another who just mistreated our things by just throwing our things into the storage unit and damaging much of our expensive furniture. The latter included Lou’s mum for putting on a big party in her garden which included a hog roast and for moving some of our remaining bits from the house after we had left. We also had some great help from our storage company, DHD storage who were amazing about sorting out our things in the storage unit after the removals guys messed up so badly.
Anyway, we are here, so what have we done? Well we looked at a few apartments on the day we arrived which was tiring but worthwhile. We saw some great apartments but the very first one we saw was always the winner, it has beautiful high ceilings and has had a fantastic re-fit including a decent TV and surround sound blu-ray system (very important). We had a few issues securing the apartment, but the result is that we top up the rent by $150 per month which shouldn’t break the bank. We finally moved in last night (Tuesday 21st July) after staying in the corporate apartment for 5-6 days, but we have to wait a couple of days for the internet to be connected and the TV system to be properly wired up. We spent the weekend wondering around Moscow, acquiring new straighteners for Lou, and on Sunday there was a Race day through Moscow city centre including F1 cars so we tried to go and see it, no chance, this is as close as I got to getting a few photos of the cars.
Based on a recommendation I have been listening to the Michel Thomas method – Russian Foundation course, I am trying to do 1 CD per day and it is actually sinking pretty well so far, I will try and go through each CD a few times and see how it goes alongside looking at the basics again. Anyway, when the stuff we shipped arrives I will be able to do process a few more photos and get blogging a bit more often.
